CleverContent.com is an image
hub that connects content buyers with sellers. We acted as Image Curator
for this site, in collaboration with Raise the Bar, to work with all the
artisans to gather and select images.

Our Role: System For Acquiring And Managing Textbook Catalog |
BigWords asked us to design a system for acquiring a database of college
textbooks, and a system for acquiring lists of required books for
courses in various universities. These systems were designed to expand and
improve the content offered on bigwords.com and also to enhance the textbook
buying experience.

Our Role: Created Public Website, and Web-based Patient Care System |
Between 1991 and 2001 we were responsible for the
DiabetesWell web site, an online service to provide medical care to patients
with diabetes. This included site architecture, content development,
appearance and web site technology. This web site ran on Windows
2000 using Active Server Pages (ASP) and SQL Server 7.0. In addition,
we developed technology that allowed DiabetesWell patients to transfer
readings from glucose meters to DiabetesWell over the Internet.
Patients can graph their readings online and track health online. We also developed a new patient portal for DiabetesWell that
enabled online communication between patients and caregivers.

Our Role: Developed Movie, Music and Book Catalog for E-Commerce Site |
For the robust FamilyWonder site, we developed infrastructure for acquiring a catalog
database of movies, music and books, as well as links to commerce system and
interactive tools for enhancing, correcting and managing database content.
We also developed an interactive web-based application for editing and updating
database content using Cold Fusion.

For FocusEngine, we are guiding product and business strategy.
We are also helping with product implementation and developing FocusEngine's
high-availability server infrastructure. Our product and business strategy
contribution has involved helping FocusEngine determine its business model
and product deployment strategy. Also important, we helped FocusEngine
understand how to customize its front-ends for multiple customers with
maximum efficiency. Finally, we managed a major upgrade to FocusEngine's
high-availability server infrastructure at a top-tier co-location facility.

In our engagement with HopeLink, we developed the HopeLink corporate web site. We developed this
web site using Nav-Code, one a technology that allows us to reduce the effort required to develop
a site. The platform
for the HopeLink web site is the Apache Web server running on the Sun Solaris
Operating System. All of our scripting for this web site was implemented
in Java Server Pages (JSP) using WebLogic from BEA Systems and Jrun from
Allaire Corporation. We also provided strategic consulting to HopeLink,
advising them on Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions, security,
patient record confidentiality and Virtual Private Networks (VPN).

Our Role: Optimized Oracle Database and Provided Standby and Security Strategy |
HotDispatch asked us to provide design and architecture advice for an
Oracle database back-end system, including optimizing database architecture
for maximum performance and server efficiency. We are also designing a
replication system for improving reliability and recovery from failure, and
providing advice for optimizing system security related to financial
transactions.
We developed a customer-configured desktop interface for Impresse's web-based enterprise printing server. This interface uses XML to
allow customers to customize Impresse's product and integrate it into
popular desktop applications. We have also developed a
coordinated set of client-side and server-side controls that are key components
of Impresse's web-based core product.

For Kleiner Perkins, we provided business evaluations for their potential
investments in Vignette Corporation and Kana Corporation. Vignette is the
leading provider of Content Management Systems (CMS) for organizations that
publish content on the web. Kana Corporation is a leading provider of
Internet-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions. For each
company, we visited corporate headquarters and interviewed top management
and key members of the technical staff. During these interviews, we assessed
the products, underlying technology and best practices used to develop the
products. We also evaluated the team members' skills and experience.
For McGraw-Hill Publishing, we provided strategy and troubleshooting advice during the final
stages of this product development effort, and provided highly technical
testing services, contacts and liaison with key technology vendors and
software architecture improvements.

Our Role: User Interface and Technology for Medline Searching |
We designed and implemented Medsite's complete interface for
searching Medline databases. Medline, published by the United States
National Library of Medicine, is the world's most comprehensive source of
life sciences and biomedical bibliographic information, with nearly eleven
million records in its database.

Our Role: Server Software Development and Project Management Web Sites |
We developed a series of project management web sites that allow
NearSpace to communicate project status to its own customers. We also
worked with this client to develop NearSpace venue technology for wireless
handheld devices, and to build the server used to develop, test and publish
NearSpace venues.
In 1998 we collaborated with our partners Raise the Bar to develop this
web site for NEC's PowerVR gaming chip. The site spoke provided
information for multiple audiences -- gamers, game developers, OEMs and Press.
We developed a Flash-based demonstration application for NEC that
described the different NEC Microcontrollers and provided PDF-based sales
information to be delivered on CD-ROM to NEC salespeople.
We developed a series of CD-ROMs for Network Associates that
provided HTML- and PDF-based sales materials to Network Associates customers
and salespeople. The series included demonstrations of the Magic TSD,
CyberCop, and Total Virus Defense products.
Peter Winer is a member of Niku's Technical Advisory Committee. This
Committee is lead by the Chief Technical Officer of Niku and meets periodically
to consider technical issues that are relevant to Niku's ongoing business. Over
the history of the committee, technical issues have included platform selection,
Java versions, security, network performance and application servers. The
committee has also evaluated product and feature issues and issues related to
Niku's competing products.

Our Role: Created Public Website, Secure Customer Support Site, and Demonstration CD-ROM |
We successfully launched Mirapoint.com and completed numerous re-launches
to coincide with major product announcements. While we continued to maintain
the sites for a year, we helped the company transition to an internal
resource. This customer support site includes a system for tracking customers,
personalizing the web experience, providing electronic mail feedback forms,
secure site log-ins, and backend databases to support the site. The HTML
based CD-ROM demonstrated the company's Internet e-mail appliance server
products.
We provided due diligence consulting to Randall Publishing as
they pursued acquisitions of two vertical market
web site ventures in the trucking and oilfield services industry.

Our Role: Information Agents And Movie Database Development |
For Reel.com, we developed information agents that acquired a multi-million
record database of movies from six different Internet sources. These agents collected
the records in an Oracle-based relational database. We developed a sophisticated
task manager that was used to acquire the movie information across the Internet
with maximum efficiency and bandwidth conservation. Our technology developed for
Reel.com also included software to implement business rules for mining the acquired
movie information, ensuring the least redundancy and highest quality of information.

Our Role: Designing and Implementing Original System Architecture |
We were hired by Simulsync to design their original system architecture
to bridge an SS7 telephone-switching network with the Internet to
add on-screen visual experiences to telephone calls.? We also went on
to implement a working proof-of-concept demonstrating the
Simulsync architecture and business.
We evaluated the business of ADB-Matisse, a French and American software
developer that was part of Sofinnova's investment portfolio. ADB developed
an Internet-based Content Management System (CMS). Our primary focus in
this business evaluation was to compare ADB's product to existing
products in the market. We compared ADB's specific features to Vignette and
Interwoven, the two main established players in the market at the time of
our evaluation.

We assisted in developing secure customer authentication technology
for the SoftBook Press Electronic Book system. We also developed a web-based interface
and technology for managing customer accounts.

Sun hired the Raise the Bar team to create a sales-centric intranet
and customer-centric external web site that communicates common solutions
and product stories to Sun Microsystems field personnel and to customers.
As producers on these sites, our team members managed the content flow and development
process, including updating content for numerous product launches.

Our Role: Members of Company Advisory Board |
As the technical members of the Tapcast advisory board, we provided
technology advice that helped create the strategy and direction of this
early-stage startup. We recommended platforms and tools, specifically
including web-based community applications. We also helped Tapcast
define their feature set and workflow for their application and corporate web site.
We conducted a business evaluation of Channelinx on behalf of Veronis
Suhler Associates and their wholly owned subsidiary, Hanley Wood. Channelinx
is a technology provider of business-to-business e-commerce technology for
the construction industry. Hanley Wood is a publisher of trade magazines
for the construction industry.
We provided technology consulting to this early-stage startup venture.
WiredKitchen is developing a business-to-business marketplace that serves
buyers in restaurants, offering them access to supplies from multiple vendors.
Our consulting included creating a functional specification for the WiredKitchen
product, including information architecture, system architecture, platforms and
applications. We also provided business evaluations of potential partners.
Our engagement with WiredKitchen also included developing early versions of its corporate
web site and brand identity.
