DiabetesWell provided an online service to people with diabetes by providing access to a dedicated team of
physicians and experts to improve disease management and treatment.
Web
Site
In August 1999, we took over responsibility for the
DiabetesWell web site. We conducted a review of the existing site and wrote a development plan for expanding
and improving the site. We not only implemented new content developed by the client and by
writers working for Big Chief, we also incorporated design changes suggested by
our partner designers at S4i.
In so doing, we improved
the appearance, information architecture and content in
the DiabetesWell site. We also provided server management
expertise, and helped our client to move the site to a more robust server infrastructure
owned
and controlled by DiabetesWell.
The DiabetesWell site runs on the Windows 2000
Server platform, using Active Service Pages (ASP) and JavaScript. We used our
own custom-developed web page management technology to develop the site, which
contained over 500 pages when completed.
Healthcare Portals
After the initial phase of the DiabetesWell site, we planned and developed
the DiabetesWell patient
portal. This patient portal
provides online health care and management for diabetics, allowing them to communicate with care providers
within DiabetesWell.
As an important component of the patient portal,
we developed unique software that allows patients
to upload the readings from handheld glucose meters to
the DiabetesWell site. After uploading the readings,
patients can graph the meter readings and track their
health progress. These readings are also available to
the DiabetesWell caregivers, who can interpret them and
give patients advice for improving their health.
The patient portal was developed
using Active Server Pages (ASP), JavaScript and
Microsoft SQL Server.
Finally, we expanded our role with this client to assist the executive
team in the design of
four new portals, for educators, physicians,
health care organizations and administrators.
